Event Details

Nishtha Manocha, Chief Operating Officer of Scientific Climate Ratings and Project Lead of the ClimaTech Project at the EDHEC Climate Institute, has co-hosted an IPE webinar introducing ClimaTech- the largest global database of decarbonisation and resilience strategies tailored for infrastructure. Scientific Climate Ratings has fully integrated this framework into its methodology to adjust its ratings by accounting for mitigation measures – a step forward from current approaches that focus solely on exposure.
In the session titled “Beyond Greenwashing: Proven Strategies to Protect Infrastructure from Climate Risk”, Nishtha Manocha outlined how Scientific Climate Ratings leverages ClimaTech to empower infrastructure owners, managers, and investors with a science-based framework that evaluates and accounts for the effectiveness of mitigation actions taken to mitigate risk.
The session outlined the core features of ClimaTech, which allows to evaluate how infrastructure assets reduce emissions and manage physical risks such as floods, wildfires, storms, and heat.
ClimaTech is the result of two years of engineering-led research and nine peer-reviewed publications into a comprehensive, open-access platform, bringing together a comprehensive and open-access platform.
The project brings together:
  • 103 strategies covering both transition (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) and physical climate risks (including floods, storms, heat, and wildfires), linked to 101 subclasses.
  • Infrastructure assets classified into eight industrial super classes, comprising various sectors, using The Infrastructure Company Classification Standard (TICCS®) developed by EDHEC Infra & Private Assets Research Institute.
  • Assessment of each strategy for relevance, effectiveness, and key enabling technologies, resulting in over 1,800 evaluated applications.

Audience Poll Higlights Gaps in Climate Risk Strategies and Lack of Accessible Data

The webinar served not only to introduce the advanced features of ClimaTech, but also to surface some key industry challenges and trends.

Nishtha Manocha noted that despite well-intentioned efforts by many smaller and mid-sized investors to address climate risks, a significant gap remains in the in-house expertise required to conduct asset-level physical risk assessments. As a result, disclosures often remain fragmented or superficial, failing to reflect the true financial materiality of climate risks.
The polling conducted during the session reflected this reality, as nearly half of the webinar participants reported that they were still developing their climate risk approach, while a majority identified the lack of access to reliable data and decision-support tools as the primary barrier to meaningful progress.
The session demonstrated how Scientific Climate Ratings addresses these challenges through its ClimaTech-empowered and strategy-adjusted ratings applied across a wide range of infrastructure asset types and sectors.
ClimaTech equips investors with both the evidence and tools to go beyond greenwashing, enabling effective measures to mitigate climate risks.
Watch the replay of the session led by Nishtha Manocha, and Conor Hubert, Sustainability Research Engineer, both of the EDHEC Climate Institute.
