SCR CEO Rémy Estran-Fraioli speaks to Les Echos on risks climate adaptation poses to sustainable finance in France

SCR CEO Rémy Estran-Fraioli contributed insights to a Les Echos article titled “Sustainable finance faces the challenge of adaptation to climate risks”, addressing the systemic risks faced by the private sector in France.

The article authored by Thibaut Madelin, Berlin Correspondent of Les Echos, highlights that as climate change becomes increasingly difficult to navigate, “financing adaptation measures is at stake” for France, where the temperature is projected to rise by 4°C between the pre-industrial era and 2100.

Rémy Estran-Fraioli stated that beyond regulations, the private sector would have to “arm itself” to navigate climate-related challenges:

“Beyond regulations, the private sector will need to gear up. That is the conviction of Rémy Estran-Fraioli, head of Scientific Climate Ratings (and EDHEC venture), which quantifies the difference in book value of assets depending on whether the owner takes no action or adaptation measures. However, this valuation will also depend on public policies, which could provide financial support (such as the Barnier Fund) and, above all, help identify high-risk zones.”
