Scientific Climate Ratings Selected by the World Bank’s IFC to Quantify the Financial Case for Climate Resilience

July 5, 2025

A consortium composed of climate risk experts Scientific Climate Ratings and AXA Climate, together with infrastructure operators SUEZ, ENGIE, and EGIS, has been selected by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, to deliver the project “Developing the Business Case for Resilient Infrastructure” following a highly competitive global tender.

The project aims to quantify how investments in adaptation and resilience (A&R) can protect infrastructure asset values from losses caused by climate-related physical risks.

Within the consortium, Scientific Climate Ratings will estimate the financial impacts of climate risks on the Net Present Value (NPV) of multiple real-world infrastructure assets and assess the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) associated with adaptation and resilience investments. This analysis will help demonstrate how resilience investments can preserve asset value and support more informed capital allocation decisions.

The results of the project will be presented in a publicly available report, providing investors, operators, and policymakers with practical insights into the financial value of climate resilience.
